Choosing Home Care

What Difference Does It Make? When It Comes to Senior Care – A Lot!

The number of different options available for senior care are enough to make your head spin. Home care agencies. Home healthcare agencies. Assisted living facilities. Nursing homes. Senior daycare facilities. Hospice care. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

How can you make the best decision for your senior loved one, when your goal is simply to help her remain as independent as possible, while staying safe and enjoying the lifestyle to which she’s been accustomed?

At Compassionate Nursing Services, we understand the confusion surrounding senior care decisions, and have a simple breakdown of some of the main types of care to help provide some clarity:

  • Home care. Home care services generally refer to non-medical tasks such as light housekeeping and laundry, assistance with meals, medication reminders, transportation and running errands, and companionship.
  • Home healthcare. Home healthcare may include basic home care services, but it also covers skilled nursing or therapy needs, such as wound care, medication administration, IV management, and physical, occupational, and speech therapy.
  • Hospice care. Hospice nurses provide pain management and comforting end-of-life care, as well as support for family members. Hospice care can be provided at home, in an assisted living or nursing care facility, or in a designated hospice facility.
  • Assisted living. Assisted living facilities typically provide meals and varying levels of care, and although some independence is maintained, costs are often very high, and a move from the family home is required.
  • Nursing home care. Nursing homes allow for constant monitoring and care, meals, and other services, but as with assisted living facilities, cost is high, independence is compromised, and the home environment needs to be changed.

A common misconception in senior care is that an eventual move to a care facility environment is inevitable as a person ages. However, we at Compassionate Nursing Services want to assure you that many seniors are able to successfully age in place right where they’re most comfortable: at home. Our caregivers are available to help seniors from as little as a few hours through full-time, around-the-clock care with a full range of services that are customized to each person’s unique needs.

It’s a well-known fact that the vast majority of seniors prefer to remain at home throughout their later years – as many as 90%. Call on Compassionate Nursing Services at 314-432-4312 to learn more about how we’re helping seniors accomplish that goal, and for help in determining if home care is the right choice for your senior loved one.
